About this opportunity

Reporting through to the Shift Leader, the Operator role is responsible for delivery of WHSE, Quality, and Production on each shift.  

Working in either Day, Afternoon or Night Shift, the Operator role will cover 24/5 operations at this Greenfields, state of the art recycling facility.  The Operator will be trained efficiently in areas such as Quality and WHSE and will be accountable for following work instructions in each area.  The Operator role will be required to escalate any issues on the line and engage the Shift Leader if input from the Maintenance team is required.  The operator role will play a key role in delivering a Continuous Improvement mindset and initiatives to process 28,000 tonnes of baled post-consumer plastics per annum for conversion into food grade resin.  

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • The Operator is accountable for all aspects of their work area; WHSE, Quality, housekeeping, and shift handover; 
  • Comply with WHSE procedures and directions and follow reasonable instructions, working towards Goal Zero at all times 

  • Undertake duties safely and contribute to the safety of others through involvement in BOP’s, Risk Assessments, and Incident Reporting 

  • Provide relevant licences and permits to supervisor where required 

  • Actively participate in all Company training on Quality Policies and Procedures, and upholding those standards at all times 

  • Contribute to product quality through inspection and testing where specified on Operators Instruction sheets 

  • Advise Supervisors or Technicians promptly of WHSE, Quality, Maintenance or People issues 

  • Work effectively to ensure quality products are produced in a timely manner and in a cost-effective way. 

  • Communicate to the oncoming shift any relevant information necessary to maintain a safe workplace which produces quality produce, in line with customer specifications  

  • Housekeeping of workstations during shift, with a final clean up at the end of the shift. 

  • Be an active member of the operations team through open & honest communication 

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Min. 2 years relevant experience in a 24/5 operation can be helpful. 
  • Experience in  post-consumer plastics recycling and/or other plastics recycling highly regarded 
  • Superior communication skills. A team player, with the ability to communicate and connect across all levels at Site 
  • Demonstrated experience of working within & actively contributing to a Continuous Improvement environment 
  • Demonstrated experience in working within highly automated facilities, using the latest technology 
  • Lean operations experience  
  • Working actively with management to create a culture of continuous improvement 
  • Manufacturing and plastic recycling experience 

Creating a sense of urgency and commitment to results and outcome delivery 

  • The successful candidate is highly results-oriented and focused on bringing strategies to implementation. S/he is energized by a challenge and able to set and deliver against goals both for self and for a team. Importantly, s/he will have a track-record of delivering change in complex environments and understands when to escalate to management
