About this opportunity

This position can be based either in Wellington with regular travel to Auckland or can be based in Auckland with regular travel to Wellington. As it looks after both sites.

The Sales Manager is responsible to deliver agreed sales and gross margin targets across Pact Packaging Wellington and Albany sites.

This is achieved by ensuring all sales and marketing resources are deployed and managed in a manner consistent with agreed current and future targets and by ensuring all other departments have the necessary information and are in agreement to assist with obtaining those targets.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the Account Manager (3 direct reports) and Customer Services team (2 direct reports) to ensure suitable customer contact levels are maintained in a manner compatible with established company objectives and values.
  • Regular key account contact in accordance with an agreed CRM strategy to ensure strong relationships with key customers, satisfaction of service levels and to demonstrate senior management commitment to that account.
  • Ownership of key accounts and delegation of other accounts and their management across the sales team.
  • Ensure customer NCR’s are dealt with effectively and that the business is seen to be responsive to issues.
  • Managing the use of marketing tools, techniques and methods to maximise awareness amongst target markets.
  • Provision of adequate forecasting data and its input to enable good Sales & Operations planning as well as to ensure forecast accuracy targets are met and improved upon.
  • Identification, research, and recommendation of new business opportunities through research and targeting potential acquisitions.

Your skills and experience:

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in sales, with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Experience in a managerial role, leading and developing a sales team.
  • Familiarity with the packaging industry or related fields can be beneficial but not essential.
  • New business development experience and success in an industrial environment.
  • Strong sense of customer focus balanced with company needs.
  • Negotiation skills and persuasive sales techniques.

  • Good presentation skills both verbal, written and electronic
  • Understanding of cost and management accounting
  • Marketing knowledge
