The Development Operations Sr. Manager is accountable for overseeing and implementing all operational aspects of the Development department’s work, including ensuring effective and efficient processes and systems (including our CRM) are in place to better meet our needs, supporting the internal communications within our department and with key stakeholders, prospect research and qualification, portfolio and moves management tracking, reconciling revenue with finance and reporting on the performance of the department. Responsibilities will include serving as lead liaison for the department with finance and information systems teams on joint initiatives. This position will also play a significant role in departmental and budget planning and manage and update departmental project plans to which we are held accountable by the organization’s senior leaders. The successful candidate for this position will be a systems thinker, a self-starter with excellent project management and organizational skills, strong attention to detail in large and small projects, possess the ability to problem-solve and multitask, be both strategic and tactical, hands-on when necessary, and provide proactive and enthusiastic support for the Development team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work in close partnership with the VP of Development and other senior leaders to manage and support all operational aspects of the major gifts, gift planning, foundation and corporate fundraising programs 
  • Work with the VP, program and finance teams to establish, negotiate, and manage annual fundraising goals, revenue budgets, and expenses  
  • Plan and implement projects/strategies that support the long-term goals of the department, including engaging with consultants and other partners as Development’s representative. 
  • Track, analyze and report on monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics of performance of the Development team, and produce other reports as determined by the Vice President of Development 
  • Ensure compliance of data entry practices related to relationship management in netFORUM, train or secure training for fundraisers on recording and tracking donor relationships, strategies, projections, and activities 
  • Help define and monitor data standards, processes and procedures in our CRM to ensure our donors are receiving high-quality experiences with every interaction, and that our systems and data adequately support our strategies, collaborating closely with Membership in areas where our strategies overlap or conflict 
  • Ensure data hygiene  
  • Support the transition to new grants management system, including defining and documenting all processes and procedures  
  • Help design and implement processes to build a pipeline of major gift donor prospects major gifts 
  • Conduct and/or oversee research on prospects and donors, including data mining of major gift portfolios, and producing targeted information for donor briefings, as needed.  
  • Interface with IT staff, consultants and internal stakeholders to address CRM and grants management needs and issues and suggest system, process and procedure enhancements 
  • Interface with finance and accounting staff to ensure data consistency between the finance system and CRM, and help reduce duplication of effort 
  • Supervise Gift Processing Coordinator, ensuring that we are meeting best practice for data standards, tax receipting and turn-around time on gift acknowledgments. Ensure this part of the donor experience delivers best-in-class stewardship. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • 8-10 years of operational/project management work experience in a professional setting, preferably having been accountable to meeting senior level executive’s expectations for quality and speed 
  • A commitment to excellence, and high expectations of staff on their team 
  • Curiosity combined with a solutions-mindset that can both envision a future state and define how to get there 
  • Excellent communication skill and impeccable customer service, including ability to work directly with donors or other important stakeholders to resolve issues or concerns 
  • Aptitude for owning and driving a project/outcome from beginning to conclusion 
  • Ability to handle multiple requests and projects at the same time, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision 
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices 
  • Ability to articulate and implement clear processes and timelines to meet complex operational goals 
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud Research Point and FoundationSearch preferred 
  • Experience with CRM databases required (i.e., Community Brands products, Blackbaud products, Salesforce, etc.) 
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and personable and willing to be hands on  
  • Extremely detail oriented  
  • Strong time management skills and practices 
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook 
  • Passion for Trout Unlimited's mission is essential
