The Queen's Engineering Sustainable Solutions and Technologies (QUESST) competition is an exciting initiative designed to foster a culture of innovation and equip Queen's students with the skills and drive to tackle pressing global challenges. By participating, students are not only indulging in academic design but are engaging deeply with real-world problems centered around sustainability. The event uniquely bridges theory with practice, allowing students to apply their classroom-acquired knowledge in tangible ways, driving them to think critically whilst participating in some friendly competition. QUESST also offers a platform for professional growth as participants will connect with industry experts, gaining invaluable mentorship and networking opportunities. By emphasizing teamwork and multifaceted problem-solving, QUESST not only nurtures technical proficiency but also interpersonal skills and cross-disciplinary understanding. 

We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following director positions. All directors will work directly with the 2025/2026 co-chairs to plan and oversee the competition.  

Sponsorship Director: We are seeking individuals who possess strong organization and communication skills, a sense of teamwork, and professionalism. In this role, you will be responsible for working with the sponsorship team and sponsorship director to secure funding for the QUESST competition. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop your communication skills and gain valuable professional experience while establishing direct connections with Fortune 500 companies. If you are a motivated and goal-driven individual with a passion for building strong partnerships and achieving results, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity. 

Speakers Director: In the role of the Speakers Director, you will be responsible for seeking out and connecting with inspiring professionals who will speak at our competition. You will also work closely with our logistics team to organize speaker panels, select topics, and establish an overall theme that resonates with our audience. You will have the opportunity to engage with speakers throughout the planning process and the event, ensuring that they are well-prepared and fully supported. You will also be responsible for coordinating and collaborating with the logistics team to ensure that all aspects of the event run smoothly. The ideal candidate for this role is a self-starter with a passion for connecting with professionals and building meaningful relationships. You should also be highly organized, creative, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.  

Logistics Director: As the Logistics Director, you will be responsible for planning and executing all aspects of venue bookings, food arrangements, hotel bookings for speakers and sponsors, table arrangements, and decor. Additionally, you will work closely with the Speaker's Directors to ensure high-level scheduling and coordination of all logistics aspects. The ideal candidate for this role should have applicable organizational skills or planning experience, and also be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You should also be highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proven track record of successfully coordinating complex tasks. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other team members and stakeholders are also key predictors for success in this role.  

Marketing Director: In the Marketing Director role, you will be responsible for kickstarting and managing our social media channels, including Instagram and LinkedIn. You will also be in charge of creating and managing our website, posting engaging content, and implementing a strategic plan for growth. As a Marketing Director, you will also be responsible for creating graphics for promotion and ensuring that all marketing materials are visually compelling and consistent with our brand. We are looking for someone who is interested in graphics and website creation and has a proven track record of creating engaging online content. The ideal candidate for this role should be highly creative, detail-oriented, and have a strong understanding of digital marketing and social media best practices. You should also be comfortable working independently and have excellent project management and communication skills.  

Treasurer: In the role of the Treasurer, you will be responsible for creating the general budget for the year and organizing and keeping track of revenue and expenses. You will also collaborate with the Sponsorship and Logistics Directors to ensure that all financial decisions are in line with our overall goals and objectives. The ideal candidate for this role should have an interest in finance and be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. You should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to facilitate adherence to the predetermined budget while still achieving our goals. In addition to financial management, the Treasurer will be responsible for providing regular updates to the leadership team, as well as assisting with fundraising efforts as needed. Delegates Director: As the Delegate Director, you will be responsible for organizing delegate applications and facilitating the selection process. You will also be in charge of maintaining relationships with delegates and collaborating with the marketing team to create an effective delegate attraction strategy. You will also be responsible for creating a delegate package that includes the necessary information and materials for participation in the competition. The ideal candidate for this role should have strong organizational skills and be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. You should also have strong communication skills and be able to maintain positive relationships with delegates, sponsors, and other stakeholders.  

Operations and Outreach Director: In the role of Operations and Outreach Director, you will directly be responsible for overseeing partnerships and collaborations with other clubs at Queen’s. You will also be the direct point of contact for collaboration with other clubs and work alongside the co-chairs and marketing team to plan promotion events. The Outreach director will also be responsible for overseeing the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Indigenization (EDII) strategy of the executive team and competition to ensure all actions follow EDII practices. The ideal candidate for this role must possess strong time management and communication skills to organize events with other clubs at Queen’s. This director should also possess confidence and creativity to find new ways to engage the Queen’s community with our competition. If you have an interest in expanding your network and an interest in planning, this is the role for you!
