We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CMT Department Manager to oversee all aspects of our Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspection department. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background, business acumen, and the ability to lead a team of professionals. The CMT Department Manager will directly support the Regional and Branch managers and be responsible for ensuring high-quality field and laboratory testing, managing department operations, driving business growth, and fostering client relationships.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and special inspections who is ready to take on leadership responsibilities in a fast-paced growing environment.
Salary range: up to $80k
*Salary is negotiable, depending on experience, skillset, and certifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Department & Operations Management: Oversee daily operations, including field and lab testing, personnel coordination, and resource allocation.
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.
- Project Oversight: Ensure quality assurance for construction materials testing and special inspections, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and local building codes.
- Business & Client Development: Build and maintain strong client relationships, prepare proposals, and secure new business opportunities.
- Financial Management: Manage department budgets, control costs, invoicing, and oversee profitability (Profit & Loss responsibility).
- Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control: Ensure all testing, inspection, and geotechnical services meet regulatory and industry standards.
- Safety & Risk Management: Promote a strong safety culture and enforce OSHA and other safety regulations.
- Reporting & Documentation: Oversee the preparation of reports, ensuring accuracy in test results and compliance documentation.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor鈥檚 degree in civil engineering or a related field. 路 Licensure: P.E. (Professional Engineer-Civil) license or ability to obtain within 1 year required.
- Experience: 7+ years in construction materials testing, special inspections, and/or geotechnical engineering, with at least 2 years of leadership and project management experience, including directly managing others.
- Certifications: ICC, ATTI, and/or ACI certifications are preferred.
- Strong leadership, team management, and communication abilities.
- Business development experience with a focus on client relations.
- Expertise in construction materials testing, inspection processes, and quality control.
- Strong financial and operational management skills.
- Proficiency in project management, scheduling, and personnel oversight.
