The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Quality and Service, the Technical Writer is a member of the Customer Operations team. The Technical Writer is the primary contact for in-house documentation and responsible for collaborating with stakeholders across Marketing, Product Management, Product Development and Operations to create internal and customer-facing materials, including release notes, user guides, technical procedures, and product bulletins. Additionally, the content produced may contribute to the development of training materials for both customers and the Customer Operations team.


Location of Position:
This position will be based in our Burnaby, BC office.


Specifically, the Technical Writer will:

  • Take product and technical specifications, along with other relevant sources of information, to develop comprehensive and concise communication pieces for customers, including for those with non-technical backgrounds.
  • Participate in the Product Development process and meetings to identify documentation needs for the product release.
  • Track, manage and resolve documentation issues and content using business tools such as Jira, Confluence, Knowledge Tree, and SharePoint.
  • Update documentation as needed, including adding screenshots, click points, images, diagrams,and flowcharts.
  • Identify gaps and inconsistencies in existing documentation, specifically for product installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting/support.
  • Adhere to Tantalus standards for vocabulary, branding, and style in documentation.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to gather necessary documentation requirements and content.
  • Review Tantalus products, solutions, and materials to understand the software, devices, features, and equipment.
  • Utilize various Tantalus business tools, including secure access for email, Slack, Salesforce-Community, Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft Office 365 applications including SharePoint.

What you Bring:
Education and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in English, Business Communications, or similar program.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical environment, ideally with software, hardware, and firmware components.
  • Familiarity with documentation and revision control methods.
  • Understanding of product development methodologies, such as the Software Development Life 
    Cycle (SDLC) and Agile processes.
  • Experience simplifying complex technical concepts for non-technical users.
  • Experience transitioning to an online documentation center or knowledge base is a plus.
