Position Summary:
EVgo Strategy and Analytics team seeks an Energy Procurement Senior Analyst to run key analytics to drive strategy development for core components within EVgo’s electric costs, one of the company’s largest cost line items. This position will have the opportunity to drive impactful solutions on demand charge management, emission offset program participation, and wholesale market involvement to support development of best-in-class cost structure. The ideal candidate will bring a background of electric retail rates, energy market, and quantitative modelling experience to expand core competencies within EVgo’s growing Energy Procurement team. The focus of this position will be working in Python, SQL, and Excel to develop efficient analytical processes and models to enable expedient result analysis and adjustment across a rapidly expanding EV charging platform.
Responsibilities:
- Demand Charge Management Analyze and quantify near-term and long-term value at stake embedded within the 200+ rate structures that EVgo takes electric service on. Build out flexible models to accommodate shifts in usage characteristics and rate design nuances related to demand ratchets, coincident demand, and demand charge holidays. Work with cross-functional teams to investigate the efficacy of participating in demand response, dynamic/real-time pricing, and similar utility programs.
- Wholesale Market Risk and Participation Analysis Support risk analysis and aid in the continued development EVgo’s decision framework for locations exposed to retail choice and wholesale market prices. Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Energy Procurement to incorporate risk analysis and future outlooks in near-term/long-term financial models.
- Emission Offset Program Analysis Build out reports to drive business insights on Emission Offset Program costs and revenues (e.g., Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Renewable Energy Credits, …), variances to budget, and other drivers. Aid in refinement of forecasting approach for these products.
- Reporting and Analysis Support development of reports across a range of topics related to EVgo’s electric cost structure, including but not limited to those areas mentioned above. Work with cross-functional teams to improve/modify existing report structures to drive process efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or related field.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience with a preference towards commercial/industrial customer electric bills, electric utility cost of service or rate design, and/or wholesale energy/capacity markets
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python and/or SQL
- Strong critical thinking skills and a passion for turning data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience using third-party software to build out reports for cross-functional teams (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, and/or Snowflake Streamlit).
- Knowledge of demand response programs and dynamic/real-time pricing rate structures
- Familiarity with Low Carbon Fuel Standard programs
- Familiarity with databases (SQL) and data management practices, Snowflake preferred.
The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 USD to $135,000 USD. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
