****This position can be hired as either an Engineer ll or Engineer lll depending on experience****
The Engineer II/III position is the intermediate to advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general/limited supervision. An Engineer II/III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II/III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly to progressively complex and varied.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of well-defined problems in area of expertise.
Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of moderate scope and complexity.
Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team.
Conducts engineering and related studies, projects, and assignments with minimal oversight, with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces.
Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures.
Demonstrates proficiency in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.

Additional Responsibilities
Performing recloser and circuit breaker coordination studies.
Remotely adjusting settings files to accommodate system changes.
Helping evaluate and implement new protection technologies.
Support with technical feedback on outage follow-up efforts by reviewing event records to improve reliability.
Support automation enablement through creation of Oneline drawings and backfeed contingency coordination studies.
Required Qualifications
Engineer ll
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
In addition to required degree, 2 years related work experience
Engineer lll
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
In addition to required degree, 4 years related work experience
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Additional coursework in system protection theory

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Skilled in distribution power system protection theories and principles.
Proficient in distribution system coordination, including circuit breakers, reclosers, sectionalizers, fuses.
Working Conditions
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Specific Requirements
