Position Summary

The position plans, directs and conducts waste management at Toddville for numerous business units including Nuclear, Power Grid Operations, Hydro, and CC/CT Plants. Serves as the main point of contact for shipping hazardous, non-hazardous manifested wastes, universal waste, and recyclables for various Duke Energy sites in the Carolinas. Encompasses a wide range of responsibilities in environmental compliance and safety protocols across multiple facilities. Conducts all environmental compliance inspections related to the Toddville facility including tanks, SPCC, air and chemical inventories. Collaborates effectively across departments and align EHS initiatives with broader organizational goals. Optimizes waste management processes to reduce environmental impact and costs. Requires a comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple critical tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Fully manage the following waste shipments, including scheduling, manifesting, facilitating the loading of materials, finalizing paperwork, and recording shipments in the SpheraCloud Waste Module : PCB soil, PCB transformer oil, Low level RAD shipments (Mixed Wastes), asbestos loads, medical waste, various recyclable materials (oil filters, lamps, scrap metal, fire extinguishers, used oil, cement, antifreeze, wood pallets, non PCB caps, tires and batteries).
  • Track and manage sample results.
  • Conduct smaller waste pickup at various locations in Carolinas West
  • Conduct monthly inspections and monitoring of UST Permit for five underground storage tanks, Air Permit (Mecklenberg County), SPCC, waste, air source, sumps, erosion control at the Toddville facility. Complete all Sphera tasks on-time.
  • Maintain SPCC plan, Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Plan and DOT Security Plan
  • Manage chemical inventory (SARA 311, Tier II reports)
  • Conduct and document Waste Determination processes.
  • Oversee Universal Waste Program
  • Prepare and submit the PCB Annual Document Log
  • Manage spill cleanups for Toddville facilities.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Health & Safety, Engineering or Other related degree
  • In addition to required Degree, 3+ years of related experience
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years experience, High School/GED and 7 years of related experience

Desired Qualifications

  • HazWoper Certification
  • DOT Shippers Certification

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
  • Office environment with exposure to PC terminal and keyboard
  • Outside work during all seasons.
  • Occasional overtime, weekend, outage and callout work.
  • Field, work site, facility visitation required.
  • Vehicle travel involved to field location; typical travel safety factors
