Create human-centered designs by gathering customer needs, designing graphic elements and building delightful user experiences. These individuals must be an expert in digital design patterns, user interface best practices and the tools of the trade. Assigned to complex projects and able to represent functional area within cross-functional teams.
In order to build an exceptional customer experience, individuals will be responsible for:
Gathering and evaluating user requirements in collaboration with business partners and software engineers
Illustrating design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps
Designing graphic user interface elements
Creating process flows for digital solutions
Developing both low and high fidelity UI mockups and prototypes
Creating original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
Preparing and presenting rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
Identifying and troubleshooting UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)
Adjusting designs based on user feedback
Adhering to style standards on fonts, colors and images
Mentoring junior UX designers and providing feedback to team members on usability, process, and style
Working on complex user experiences
Researching and establishing best practices for UX
Create prototypes and design specifications by working collaboratively with business and IT partners
Work closely with other designers and developers to execute designs
Participate and lead sessions and workshops with business partners to gather requirements
Conduct user research
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Graphic Design or other related majors
In addition to required degree, four (4) year minimum of related work experience
In lieu of bachelor’s degree AND four (4) years minimum of related work experience listed above, Associate’s Degree AND 5 years minimum related work experience
Proven experience designing complex data-centric applications involving dashboards, data visualizations, and analytic tools.
Familiarity with best practices in chart and graph design (bar, line, scatter, heatmaps, etc.) and when to use them.
Ability to balance user experience with performance constraints and data integrity.
Experience working within cross functional product teams (Product Owners, Engineers, Data Scientists, Meteorologists, etc.) in agile environments.
Strong proficiency in Figma, including component libraries and design systems, with experience contributing to and building a design system for data heavy applications.
Understanding of accessibility best practices (WCAG guidelines), with knowledge of how they apply to data visualizations.
Expert in wireframing and prototyping tools and technique and/or front end development technologies and techniques.
Expert in user interface design patterns and/or coding practices.
Familiarity with user research methodologies including usability testing, card sorting, web analytics, field studies and heuristic analysis
Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate with influence in large cross-functional project teams.
Ability to work within, contribute to and author design systems and style guides.
Portfolio of Work
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
